I have been operating a mobile sawmill business across Vancouver Island for over 24 years, and have cut over a Million Board feet of lumber. I currently use a Woodmizer LT70 Remote. This high end production sawmill allows me to maximize quality lumber and minimize waste for my customers.
What I can do:
-Custom wood sizes.
-Live edge wood.
-Grading lumber (I have a B certificate)
What I don't do:
-I do not fall trees. (you need to find someone else for that)

Log Diameter to bd foot scale
-
The mill will cut logs up to 20 feet long and 3 feet in diameter.
-
A log 6 log will yeild a 4x4 and is worth saving, especially in Cedar and Fir.
-
The shortest I generally cut is 4 feet, the longest is 20 foot 0 inches.
(I do have a 6 foot extension for a total of 26 feet if needed)
(It is however more economical to have logs cut at least 8 feet long.)
-
It is best to have your logs cut a few inches longer than necessary, (for example 8 foot 3 inches will give the carpenter more options.
-
We charge for nails or metal spikes in logs that damage the cutting blade.
-
A good site layout and well stacked logs will save time.
-
Logs are best piled on old 2x6s or small logs to keep them off the dirt.
-
The mill and truck are 50 ft long, and logs need to be loaded from the driver's side.
-
There are several efficient site layouts, please contact Murph for details on how best to setup your cutting site. It is important to have places for the waste, finished lumber, and a path for the mill to get in, and to be able to turned around and get out!
